Hærmuseum (Museum of war) in Nordfjordeid

In 1972 the  Armed Forces made a deal with the council of Eid municipality that made the military property in Nordfjordeid taken by Eid municiplaity in 1976. In the meanwhile Firda kaserne was built in Mogerenda for the National guard.

Hærmuseumet (Museum of war) in Nordfjordeid was opened the 22th August 1981. The idea of the museum was born in 1972. The museum is on the old Osnes-yard on the farm in Osnes. The farm is one of the oldest in town. There are 5 buildings on the museum area, and they were buildt in 1791 and 1793.

The Eksis place

Christian 5 was responsible for restoring the Norwegian army in 1628. About 60 years ago Lieutenant Colonel Amdahl wrote an article, where he told about the life on the eksersisplace at Nordfjordeid in 1800-90.

            The head farm Osnes was almost as meant for eksersismo(Military activities), and later on it was extended with hired areal from the farm Gjerde.
